SSP Sync is SSP’s flagship product offering to migrate your current GIS into a fully functional Utility Network (UN) implementation.
It isn’t enough to be fast. Every day you spend passing data back and forth between your construction and operations teams is a day you lose revenue. That’s why service providers from the largest to the local come to 3-GIS to transform the way they do business.
Augmented Reality. “Big Data” Business Intelligence. Smart Grid. These are the three most words I see pretty much every day scrolling through platforms like LinkedIn.

Montana-Dakota Utility Group (MDUG) is in the process of a digital transformation to support their goal of becoming a best-in-class utility. The transformation includes work/asset management, design, outage management, and field as-built processes. It extends the system of engagement capabilities into utility operations, spatially enabling system inspection, maintenance management, design and as-built, regulatory compliance, field services, work management, 811, and more.
SSP Productivity is a utility network add-on for ArcGIS Pro efficiency. Building on the ArcGIS platform’s powerful capabilities, enabling users to do more work, faster; higher quality work, easier, and with a footprint no larger than necessary.
The transition to the Utility Network involves a very different way to model your data than what you probably have been doing today.
Right-sized and aligned, such a simple concept. Acquire the technology that you need and acquire technology that plays well with your existing investments. A humble approach, but with broad benefits for many stakeholders throughout the utility.
This “looking under the hood” session will focus on three main aspects of the Utility Network: Model, Associations, and Tracing.
Utility & telecom geospatial strategy is hitting a sweet spot where technology has caught up with industry demands and is propelling businesses forward with increasingly sophisticated approaches to work and asset management.

Proactive transmission and distribution vegetation management is critically important to public safety and electric system reliability. A sound vegetation management program helps ensure public safety by mitigating the risk of fires caused by vegetation contacts. Using Lifecycle and MIMS, utilities can create comprehensive vegetation management programs. In this session, you will learn how Lifecycle and MIMS can be configured to plan and manage transmission and distribution vegetation management programs, complete line patrols, perform inspections of in progress and completed work, identify required follow-up work and build a trackable, verifiable and auditable record of all vegetation management work activities.
Does it take you weeks to gather yearly PHMSA data and submissions? Can your GIS provide all this information to you instead? MLGW now as this information at their fingertips at a moment’s notice. SSP Innovations has partnered with MLGW to support a migration of their gas transmission data into UPDM and an implementation of Esri’s ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing tool set. This process included gathering records on pipeline data going back as far as 70 years ago. The team digitized information and migrated data to the standard Esri model for continual maintenance, risk analysis, data gaps and regulatory functions. Upon establishing the best-known representation of the gas environment (the digital twin), SSP and MLGW created a custom path that pulls all the required data together into the summarized PHMSA dashboard based on any delta/edits. In doing so, the entire organization can consume their regulatory snapshot throughout the year, eliminating weeks of data gathering prior to the yearly submission every March. The presentation will overview the entire project as well as our final outputs.
In a time where utilities need to work not only faster, but smarter, we can turn to our data for solutions. Machine learning techniques offer methods of turning data into automated processes and business insights. Stephen and Justin will show an example of how to automatically detect and digitize GIS features using images of natural gas regulator stations collected in the field. They will walk through the process of data preparation and analysis, training a deep learning model, and automating workflows based on the results of the model. The resulting solution will be able to create features in an Esri enterprise geodatabase using only an image captured by a field worker.
AEP has been using Esri’s GIS system of engagement to share information across the company. In an effort to upgrade their Transmission Asset Inspections AEP chose to migrate from paper-based processes to a mobile, map-based system using a Portal-hosted web app and Survey123. Hear about the process and lessons learned as AEP moved 14 different forms into the digital age, pushed GIS into the field user’s hands, and integrated the results into their data warehouse.
Attribute Propagation is the generic name for advance functionality built into Esri’s core Utility Network capable of automatically assigning and managing the values of a network attribute. When the attribute represents the phase value of lines and equipment in an electric network, Phase Propagation adjusts the phases in response to switching operations. Phase Propagation produces the expected phasing values only if the underlying network model is built to support this advance functionality.
PHMSA recommends operators frequently and consistently review their data that supports HCA or DOT Class calculations. Key datasets include structure, identified sites or outdoor congregation polygons. The attribution, purpose and usage of buildings, open structures, and outside areas can shift over time, changing the number of “identified sites” in a PIR, and therefore, whether an area is an HCA. PHMSA believes that if operators review class location and PIR data on an annual basis as a part of their IM programs, the accuracy of HCA determinations will be greatly improved.
