Four data issues found in nearly every Utility Network migration

Each one hides inside the Geometric Network today. None of them survive contact with the Utility Network's topology rules. Here is what to fix before you migrate.

Stacked Points
Two features cannot occupy the same spot. The Geometric Network never enforced that rule.

In the Utility Network, every point feature migrates to a Device or a Junction, and neither table allows spatial coincidence. Offset stacked devices before migration, usually on the XY axis, so the network traces commodity flow correctly.

Geometry Issues
Duplicate vertices, self-intersecting lines, and invalid geometry ride along quietly for years.

The Geometric Network never flags empty, invalid, or self-intersecting geometry on its own. Rebuild your geometric network with a tighter snapping tolerance, and the resulting error log surfaces every one of these problems in a single pass.

Improper or Invalid Connectivity
Lines that are not properly connected stop tracing cold.

The Utility Network requires a real device or junction everywhere a line splits or taps, not an automatically generated net junction. Build those tap features ahead of migration instead of finding them mid-project.

Bad Attribute Data
Open and closed device statuses, and phasing data, decide whether a trace matches reality.

Get those attributes wrong and tracing breaks the moment the Utility Network runs its validation rules. Ask your control room and outage management teams where this data is unreliable before you migrate, not after.
