Montana-Dakota Utility Group (MDUG) is in the process of a digital transformation to support their goal of becoming a best-in-class utility. The transformation includes work/asset management, design, outage management, and field as-built processes. The goals are to be paper-free in the office and field, have consolidated processes and tools across all their operating companies, establish the system of record for asset information, and increase data quality, completeness, and timeliness. There are several core systems involved in the transformation one of which is MDUG’s enterprise Esri ArcGIS Platform.
The GIS plays an integral role in MDUG’s transformation and will be transformed as well migrating from Esri’s prior version of network management, the geometric network, to the latest network management solution, utility network. This presentation will focus on the importance of expert planning to ensure success with aligning large projects, identifying major hurdles (like resourcing or data issues), understanding the resource requirements and budget, developing strategies for integrated systems, and getting the organization aligned, from the executive suite to editor in the field.
