Maximo-Designer™ Integration Reduces Estimate Time

Large Utility Saves Time Estimating with Work Management Integration

A large southwestern utility had already purchased IBM’s Maximo for asset and work management. The utility had selected its Maximo implementation provider but still needed a provider who could integrate Maximo with its existing Schneider Electric Designer™ tool. So the utility put out a call for a Maximo Designer™ integration provider. 

Why SSP for Designer™-Maximo Integration?

SSP proposed two interfaces between these two critical systems, which would increase efficiency in the engineering workflow.

First, SSP Integrated the CU Libraries

SSP built an integration point between Designer™ and Maximo, so each system would reflect the same Compatible Unit (CU) Library. This meant any change in a combination of resources in one system would be updated in the other system automatically. 

Second, SSP Enabled the Translation of Estimate Information Between both Systems

With the CU libraries integrated, SSP next optimized the estimation workflow. This meant a work order created in Maximo could be pushed to Designer™ for design. The completed design estimate, in turn, could be sent back to Maximo. With all the correct labor, equipment and materials at hand, the utility could more effectively manage inventory, cost and field scheduling. 

The result eliminated manual data reentry, which saved time, saved money and improved data quality. 

Downstream Field Improvements

In addition to the main integration, SSP oversaw two related projects. 

First, SSP oversaw the creation of a mobile application. This application combined Esri’s ArcGIS Runtime SDK with Maximo Anywhere’s field inspection app.  The result was an online / offline field app that let crews access, edit, and submit asset information to the central asset database from anywhere. 

Finally, SSP oversaw the creation of geoprocessing tools, which enabled field crews to optimize their inspection routes. 

The project is still in process and expected to finish in 2017.
