The Need: Washington PUD needed modern enterprise GIS, work management system, and related systems as well as integrations and customizations to propel the 80-year-old organization into era of enterprise-wide efficiency.
The background: Douglas County PUD provides power to north central Washington state. The not-for-profit PUD generates power from the Wells Dam with a peak capacity of 840 megawatts. The PUD also owns and operates a high-speed fiber-optic broadband Internet network that allows rural customers to connect to broadband.
Douglas County PUD had an outdated legacy GIS and work management system for its electric and telecommunications networks. The PUD wanted to adopt industry-leading GIS to reap greater application capabilities along with a highly configurable work management solution. They sought an array of systems modernizations — including deploying Esri ArcGIS, SSP Workforce Management, and a variety of related systems and integrations — to bring efficiencies to every aspect of their organization.
SSP responded to Douglas County’s RFP and, after demonstrating solutions on site, won the bid.
SSP’s deep domain knowledge of ArcGIS and ArcFM™ provided a strong foundation for the GIS deployment as well as best practices in integrating and customizing related systems.
In addition, SSP offered a GIS-integrated, utility-specific and highly configurable workforce management solution, WFM.
Douglas County PUD is now fully set up on with the ArcGIS suite as well as SSP Workforce Management.

Departments throughout the PUD are using the new systems, including customer service, engineering, field operations, finance, billing and others. The PUD has reduced data entry, increased data quality, accelerated daily workflows, and added efficiencies and new tools to each department.
